Decorated cookies right out of the oven

20111127-095952.jpg

Want to know an easy way to get fancy decorated cookies directly out of the oven, no waiting for cooling or fussing with a piping bag!

Easy two ingredients

Turbinado sugar
Edible gold dust(found at michaels crafts or Williams Sonoma, possibly other kitchen stores as well)

20111127-095513.jpg

Mix 1/8 teaspoon gold dust with
1/2 cup of turbinado sugar

Mix until all sugar is coated in dust

Next using whatever recipe you like

I used
http://bakingwithsneakers.com/blogs/intheoven/2010/12/14/new-favorite-gingerbread-recipe/

Take your cut out cookies and slightly press into the sugar( I found it easiest to work with by putting the mixed sugar on a plate)

Now you just place cookies sugar side up on your pan for baking
Once pan is full, bake for allotted amount of time that your recipe calls for and voila! Decorated cookies!!

jar of cake

It was my brothers birthday, he lives a province away from me. I wanted to send him some cake but I was unsure how. first I thought I would send a fondant wrapped cake, since fondant is pretty durable. BUT  we all know fondant looks pretty but doesn’t taste very good.

so I got this idea for a cake in a jar. but how do I get the cake into the jar, without it being mashed and unappetizing?

THIS IS HOW

I  made cakes  by using cake batter as if it were pancake batter. and then used a cookie cutter to shape it.

i made two different cakes, a white cake and a chocolate cake.
to make a cutesie layer cake with a delicious dairy free buttercream between.

yay!

christmas candy

As a person with a dairy allergy I know how Christmas is a super sad time, no Christmas chocolates for me in my stocking!!!

well this year is different I came across two different websites!!

http://www.vivagranola.ca/ lots of options on vegan chocolates and vegan other treats, and it is Canadian so the shipping is cheaper! I really like the go max go bars!

http://www.naturalcandystore.com/ this site has stuff  that is gluten free, corn free, dairy free, kosher, you name it they have it. But if you live in Canada the shipping is quite expensive.

but once a year I can indulge and help out my fellow allergic to everything delicious friends.

I ordered from both, both of them arrived quickly and  nothing was smushed or melted. can’t wait to share the treats on Christmas!

Anthropologie

if only Vancouver had an Anthropologie store!

fashion, home items, jewelery, shoes, I would live in there.

probably best on my pocketbook that we don’t have one..

bedding

bits and pieces
this would be perfect in a bathroom, on the back of the door! or if you had a large enough bathroom and family, on the wall for robes and towels. super cute.I have a spoft spot for cephalopods

dachshund door stop!

this funny owl would be perfect on those light switches that are very prominent in the room. I’d paint it though I don’t like the distressed owl look.

I would use all of these in my entrance hall coat hanger, the posts would need to be cut back though. to use a bolt to hold them in the board that has really bad hooks on now.
( I know these are knobs but seriously the one I have now is knobs and is terrible they are too small and too round these would be perfectttt.)

yes and yes.

when I was little I had regular pencil like this,I thought it was really cool, pencil crayons take it to a whole new level of cool.

goodies

Pinocchio tape measure, I actually have this in my sewing bench! This guy is super fun to have.

ICE CREAM PICNIC!
haha if you can’t wait until you get home from your picnic in the sun to have some icecream bring it along!

sloshed milk bowl, it’s pretty funny but I don’t know how often it would really be used for cereal

oh yes please, nice pizza knife, I know I’m tired of gooey knife handles!

A perfect tea bag mug. Holds that string in place so it doesn’t fall in the cup when you’re pouring the water in!
