christmas candy

As a person with a dairy allergy I know how Christmas is a super sad time, no Christmas chocolates for me in my stocking!!!

well this year is different I came across two different websites!!

http://www.vivagranola.ca/ lots of options on vegan chocolates and vegan other treats, and it is Canadian so the shipping is cheaper! I really like the go max go bars!

http://www.naturalcandystore.com/ this site has stuff  that is gluten free, corn free, dairy free, kosher, you name it they have it. But if you live in Canada the shipping is quite expensive.

but once a year I can indulge and help out my fellow allergic to everything delicious friends.

I ordered from both, both of them arrived quickly and  nothing was smushed or melted. can’t wait to share the treats on Christmas!

Happy Holidays! WINTER TIME IS ALMOST HERE

ginger bread house!
advent calender!

our baby Christmas tree

with POPCORN ON IT! favourite easy decorating

spiced rum is also very festive!

I put roughly 375ML of regular dark rum in a mason jar then added:
a few chunks of ginger root
some anise seed
half a stick of cinnamon
half of a nutmeg
half inch by 2 inch strip of orange peel

I screwed the lid on tight and  shook it really hard and kept it in the cool cupboard.

shaking it a few times a day, after the first day I removed the orange peel cause it was smelling a bit too orangy

then after the 3rd day I strained it with a piece of cheese cloth and poured it into a glass bottle with a cork top! yummy! and easy

Portable BBQ and beach blanket

I bought this cheap charcoal BBQ at Canadian tire for an anniversary present

it is amazing, perfect for the summer!

Also I made a blanket to go over the logs at the beach, it’s foldable into it’s own pocket, really an unnecessary feature since of course blankets are foldable… But hey no more leg slivers or snagged bathing suits.

Easter eggs

I ended up making those German Easter eggs I mentioned a little while ago.

paper mache around a balloon. Elementary school craft tricks sure helped me out.

easter eggs

when I was a little kid My brother and I got the same German papier-mâché eggs every year at Easter filled with treats. They had left my memory for some time until I saw Williams Sonoma are selling them! Already filled with treats though. I’m sure I could find them, treat-less, in an antique store or one of those faux antique stores that sell vintage looking stuff. oh they’re the most fun.
that crimpy paper, or plastic is totally necessary too, it makes a huge mess, but it makes the memory so much sweeter years later. No real reason, just feels right.
